A 2012 independent audit of the Chesterfield Observer reported that the circulation at 70,746, which includes mailing to 63,019 upscale homeowners in Chesterfield County. The remaining circulation is available for free pickup at numerous retail locations and public libraries in the county.
The Observer has the largest circulation of any weekly newspaper in Virginia. In the Richmond metro area, the Observer has almost twice the circulation of any other weekly newspaper. Compared to the daily newspaper, the Observer has almost three times its weekday circulation in the county. Because the Observer reaches 60 percent of the homes in Chesterfield, it has the county government commitment to run its legal notices.
